A Message from Fr. Jim
May is traditionally a month dedicated to our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to our own mothers. Our May Novena is dedicated to our mothers, living and deceased. We unite ourselves to them in prayer, and remember them to the Lord and His Mother, Mary. Join us in this novena, either in person (if you live in or near Chicago), or at home by offering a novena of prayers to them. We would also be happy to remember your mothers here at the Shrine.

Dominican Connection
Did you know that there is an ancient tradition that the Blessed Virgin Mary gifted the rosary to St. Dominic? This is immortalized in various paintings. Dominicans have a special devotion to Mary. She is considered patroness of the Order. Dominicans remember this special gift of the rosary by including the complete rosary as part of our holy habit, or religious garb.

Resilience
Human beings are amazing. We experience the loss of loved ones; serious illness; betrayal; being up-rooted; torture; serious depression; addictions; and still, - here we are! Not only are we still here, but we continue to take an interest in other people and make decisions that will make things better. We are resilient. Resilience is very intertwined with the virtue of Hope.
