It’s already time for our annual celebration in honor of St. Jude Thaddeus on October 28! It’s amazing to me how widespread the devotion is to our “Saint of Impossible Cases” is. Our website draws together faithful from six continents and more and more young people are developing a strong devotion to this Apostle.

Being Nonviolent
When we are afraid or extremely angry with another person, or overtaken with greed, a primitive reaction can possess us. We see this automatic reflex in Luke's Gospel, 9:51-56, when James and John asked that fire from heaven come down and destroy the Samaritans. In more contemporary terms, they were saying, "Let's nuke them!" Jesus rejected this madness and scolded them for allowing themselves to be victimized by such a primitive impulse. It is imperative that we seek the nonviolent way of Jesus.

Dominican Connection
Fr. Jim shares details about the Arm Relic of St. Jude Thaddeus which has been in the possession of the Dominicans of the Province of St. Albert the Great since 1949. While some will say that relics are just “pieces of bone,” to people of faith relics are signs of how God works through ordinary mortal people (like you and me!).

October Novena Guest Preacher
Fr. Mark Paraday, O.P., currently serves as the Shrine's Pastoral Associate. He also served at the Shrine from 1959 to 1965, before leaving to spend 41 years living and ministering in Bolivia, where he was was very active in youth and pastoral ministry in the poor barrios, hospitals, and jails.
